Hello, I am Ujjwal. I am a Postdoctoral researcher at the Research Center for Sustainable Investments and Insurance, a joint research center between the University of Amsterdam and ASR Nederland. My research focuses on designing and building artificial intelligence systems for business applications, specifically developing AI systems that understand and analyze abstract, subjectively perceived themes in large-scale multimodal data.

I've applied these techniques to diverse business challenges, such as capturing abstract signals like "atmospherics" from user-contributed review images for restaurants and analyzing how companies communicate sustainability-related messages through abstract, high-level messaging in visual content.

My expertise lies in designing robust AI systems that process large-scale social multimedia data for various use cases—spanning the full pipeline from wrangling messy real-world datasets to deploying reliable production systems. I am also the co-creator of Exquisitor, a production-scale visual search and exploration system that enables users to search through millions of images and videos using conversational "chat-style" queries and relevance feedback.
